A homebrew TTRPG by Ciaran O’Connor

Folkstory is…

…a table top roleplaying game. It’s an alternative to dungeons and dragons but in gdocs form and raw as fuck. It will be riddled with unormalized language, inconsistencies, errors, gameable loopholes and narrative black holes. But there is enough here to get a game together. The only way in which I think it deliberately varies from the format of D&D is that it includes the sketch of a world and history against which to set the adventures.

I would invite newcomers to attempt to make a character first. You might want more understanding of the rules, in which case check out the Combat & Basics, Skills, and the Whispering rules, should you want to sling magic about. If you want more on the world and lore, check out the World doc. If you feel like selecting some gear for your character, the Equipment file might be worth a look. The remaining docs are all core to the game, but all driven by the gamesmaster. By all means, feel free to peruse other sections – though if you’re down to take part in a campaign watch out for spoilers in the Bestiary!

Folkstory is open source. My only request is that if you do make use of anything you find here, that you contribute your feedback – email me at ciaran @ getquesting.co.uk. Your thoughts will be hugely appreciated, and you’ll be at the very least credited when version 1 makes it to the light of day!
